Elizabeth Brosnan Hourihan recently spent the day in New York City and visited the Holiday House NY on the Upper East Side. Each year the Holiday House NY, held in a historic mansion, showcases top interior designers in the industry as they decorate the mansion’s four floors of rooms, hallways, and even bathrooms.
The chairs of the Holiday House are Iris Dankner, interior designer and philanthropist, and Hourihan’s good friend Christopher Hyland of Christopher Hyland Inc. Dankner and Hyland challenge interior designers to innovatively decorate their spaces as if they were celebrating a holiday or a special life moment. The Holiday House NY is surely becoming a major event in the interior design world and a must see designer showcase. Besides showcasing designers and their creative ideas, the Holiday House NY is also a wonderful charity event. The founder of the Holiday House is a breast cancer survivor and the proceeds go to breast cancer research to help women fighting the disease.
During her visit to the showhouse, Elizabeth Brosnan Hourihan was able to speak with many designers about their individual rooms and from where they drew their inspiration. “I believe that it is always great for interior designers to support one another by attending their events and it’s a way for us to see how other interior designers convey their ideas of celebration through their design,” says Hourihan.
