Elizabeth Brosnan Hourihan is a passionate supporter of the Folly Cove Designers (1938-1969), a group of 45 fabric designers who lived and worked around the Cape Ann, Massachusetts area.
Elizabeth’s interest in the Folly Cove Designers’ work dates back to when she lived in the Cape Ann area herself. She discovered the group’s work and was fascinated. Being an architect and an interior designer has allowed her to view the guild’s work from a designer’s perspective. “Their pieces are truly timeless, “ notes Elizabeth. “The design process and techniques that the group followed are flawless and unique because each designer drew from their own surroundings and interests to create a design. The final product feels so comforting and soothing to me because it is so simple, but yet the actual design itself is so intricate as well as the process involved to even create the linoleum block.”
Elizabeth’s expertise in the history and artwork of the Folly Cove Designers was highlighted in a feature article in New England Home magazine, “Building Blocks of Design.” Recently, Elizabeth was approached by PBS Executive Producer, Christine Lundberg, to talk about her own Folly Design collection and Elizabeth will soon be featured on an upcoming PBS documentary about the Folly Cove Designers.
